MARGARET IVINS
1911 - 2002
Margaret Wright “Peggy” Ivins of Taber, beloved wife of the late Edward Ivins, passed away peacefully with family present on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the age of 90 years.
Peggy will be forever remembered by her brother Hugh Robertson; daughter Patty (Darwin) Lund; son Tom (Dianna) Ivins; grandchildren Corby Lund (Fiancée Debbie Dilworth), Kevin (Christy) Lund, Kristen (Tom) Simek and Tanya (Cole) Nelson and great granddaughters Haley, Sadie, Brynn and Tomi Jane. She was predeceased by her parents, Parker and Ethel Carruthers, and by Edward James Ivins, her husband of sixty two years.
Peggy was born on the family farm in Grassy Lake on November 9, 1911. She grew up in Grassy Lake where she also attended school. She graduated from Calgary Normal School and studied Home Economics in Claresholm for one year. She taught in a series of country schools - One Four (Manyberries), Burdett, Beazer, Sedon, Harrisville, Hutterite Schools, and Residential Schools on the Reserve. She sometimes rode horseback to school from the ranch. Peggy and Eddie were married in Calgary on April 5, 1939. Except for a stint when Eddie was cattle manager on the Reserve at Brockett, they spent most of the next 60 years on the ranch on Lee’s Creek. Peggy was passionate about her family and her profession. She was proud to be a Canadian. She loved ‘the ranch’, with its owls, humming birds, wildlife and wildflowers. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and picking wild berries, especially saskatoons and chokecherries. Peggy will be remembered for her integrity and morals, her hospitality and as a good friend and neighbor.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 389 - 2 Avenue West, Cardston on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend David Moors officiating.
