DAVE DERKSEN

1954 - 2011

David Derksen, a.k.a Davie D, beloved husband of Karen Derksen of Taber, father, grandfather and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the age of 57 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, September 12, 2011 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Besides his loving wife Karen, Dave is survived by his children Noel Derksen of Taber, Derek (Jodie) Derksen of Lamont, Kayla Derksen (Wayde Arnel) of Brooks; his step children Kara (Traverse) Gamache of Taber and Jaysen Keslick of Taber; daughter-in-law Renee Derksen; ten grandchildren; his father Bill Derksen of Taber and mother-in-law Virginia Jensen of Taber. He is also survived by his siblings Ed Derksen of Taber, Marlene (Sheldon) Skretting of Vauxhall, Marie (Gilles) Leclair of Lethbridge, Teresa (Alan) Phillips of Taber, Kathy (Terry) Warkentin of Lethbridge, Brenda Derksen (Trent Fritz) of Taber and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was predeceased by his mother Nettie Derksen, sister-in-law Cheryl Anderson and father-in-law Fred Jensen.
Dave was the oldest son of Nettie & Bill Derksen. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and was very proud of his Honda V65 Magna. Dave took his schooling in Taber and started working immediately after. His passion was driving truck. He was constantly making sure that his Volvo semi was up to par with everything. Most of his adult life was spent trucking crude oil in the Oil Industry and hauling grain. He spent years driving for Koch Transportation, Plains Midstream and Randa Transportation. He always said that his “life was behind the windshield of the truck”.
Dave had a wide range of friends, family, and co-workers across the province that liked, loved and respected him. He is truly a person that no one will be able to forget. He will be loved and missed by all.
