JOHN KURINA
1902 - 1998
John Kurina, born December 16, 1902 in Blatnice, Moravia, passed away January 17, 1998 peacefully in his sleep.
John is survived by Agnes, his loving wife of sixty eight years; his sister, Marie, of the Czech Republic; by his children Jarmila (Paul) Thibodeau, Henry (Barbara) Kurina, Rose Tyberg, John Frank Kurina, Alice Tizzard, and Frances (Bob) Malcolm; his grandchildren Ron and Raymond Thibodeau, Joanne Toth, Janine Davies, Diana Tyberg, Jeanette Hedingham, Rhonda Friesen, Christine Uhryn, Richard Kurina, Denise Kurina, Kathy Czechowski, David Kurina, Michelle Cej, Monique Brada, Jean Paul Tizzard, and Brad, Christine and Sandra Malcolm, and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Caroline, his parents Frank and Katherine, brother Frank, and sisters Teresa, Philomena, and Katherine.
John came to Canada in 1925 and began working in the new sugar beet industry in Barnwell. He married Agnes Bartosek in 1929 and purchased his farm in Cranford where he resided until March 1997.
John was a fair and honest, hard working man with high principles. Throughout his life he showed a never ending curiosity and love of learning. He is remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a well respected member of the community.
For his family, John was a constant Rock of Gibraltar. We, the family, give thanks for his life and will always feel his presence with us.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber, on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend David Meadows officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
