JOE FILKAS

1953 - 2011

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josip Filkas, beloved husband of Zlata Filkas and father of Marinela and Samantha Filkas. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in their home on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the age of 58 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sandra Riddell officiating.
Joe is survived by his wife Zlata; daughters Marinela Filkas and Samantha Filkas both of Calgary; sisters Marija Nagy, Marija Resler; brother Slavko (Ankica) Filkas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Zorka Filkas; brother-in-law Ljudevit (Iva) Zlatic; cousin Joe (Ivanka) Orzes and their families as well as the Nagy and Sujetlicic families.
He was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Antonija Filkas; brother Milan Filkas; brother-in-law Vilim Nagy.
Joe was born on March 15, 1953 in Toranj, Croatia and moved to Ontario inn 1977 with his wife and eldest daughter. After the birth of their second daughter, they moved to Alberta where they settled in Taber. It was here that Joe had a woodworking business where he and his wife worked together for many years. He loved to spend his free time in the outdoors camping, fishing and hunting. Sadly his time was cut short after a bravely fought two year battle with cancer. He will always be remembered as a strong and generous man who had a great sense of humor and a love for life. Joe was a devoted husband and father who cared and loved his family and friends deeply.
