She was predeceased by her parents David and Katherina Fehr as well as by her sisters and brothers.
Nettie was born near Hague, Saskatchewan on August 22, 1936 to David and Katherina Fehr. She was the youngest of thirteen children. Nettie married William “Bill” Derksen on August 8, 1953. They lived in Barnwell and moved to Hague, Saskatchewan in 1962, then returned to Barnwell in 1966 and eventually settled in Taber. Her family was her life and even when times were tough, she always made the best of the situation and made sure her children were taken care of. Her door was always open anytime we wanted. Nettie had a great love and talent for sewing. We all admired her shiny and sparkly blouses she made for herself; she loved “bling” and her favourite color was purple. Nettie always looked good and took good care of herself. She was a very independent person. She drove school bus for twelve years and always kept herself busy after retirement. Her brown sugar cookies with marshmallow icing and fresh baked buns were always a christmas favourite! Even though Nettie didn’t have any animals, she loved them all, especially dogs. Whenever she was around them they seemed to gravitate towards her. Mom/Grandma will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Nettie’s name may be made directly to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society, Box 793, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 3Z6 or to the Alberta SPCA, 10806 - 124 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5M OH3.
