Brett arrived on May 22, 1996 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. As a newborn, he began his journey on this earth in Stars Air Ambulance and on life support in the Edmonton hospital. That June, against all odds, Brett proved the medical prognosis wrong and he not only survived his lung and brain trauma, but thrived in spite of it.
Although Brett was left with a high sensory hearing loss, he never let this slow him down. He was kind, gentle, and compassionate. He deeply cared for people and was especially sensitive to others who might also have struggles in their life. Brett’s family and friends always knew he had their backs and he inspired everyone through his acceptance of others and his kindness to everyone. He was always one you could count on.
His incredible zest for life was both admired and appreciated by all who knew him. For fifteen years, he lived his life to the fullest and was always known for giving it his all. Two of Brett’s passions were hockey and riding/racing his quad and dirt bike. Brett was a champion. He received ‘Best Defenseman’ in hockey for his great attitude and work ethic. He was always improving his game and sparking the team with his big hits. He was a great asset to his team.
Brett also received numerous championship awards over the years while racing motocross. Whether he was on the track or riding in the mountains, he always rode with heart and determination. He was blessed with a natural ability and truly shone brightly.
On June 4, 2011, Brett once again boarded Stars Air Ambulance and was headed back to Edmonton on life support for lung and brain trauma. Within the loving arms of Taylor, Kim and Greg, Brett crossed through the beautiful veil between Heaven and earth. With the soft touch of an angel’s wing and the grace of God, he walked over Rainbow Bridge with his pets Freddy and Bruizer at his side. From there, he entered Heaven’s gate, welcomed into the warm and devoted embrace of his Grandma Frances, his Grandpa Peter, his Grandma Gladys, his Uncle Eugene, his Uncle Cliff and his Auntie Jenean.
Brett will always be lovingly cherished by his little sister Taylor, his mother Kim and his father Greg. He will also be remembered by his Grandparents John & Betty Meier, his aunts and uncles, Pete Forchuk; Phil & Barb Forchuk and family; Cyril & Marilyn Forchuk and family; Bernadine & Ray Leech and family; Jim & Susan Meier and family; Cynthia & Clarence Holthe and family; Ed & Tammy Meier and family; Mary & Jerry Marose and family and his cousins Colter, Quintin and Keaton Meier; Dean & Devonee Sininger and family; Devin & Tara Sininger and family; Tracy & Ian Lardner and family. We know that his memory will also be cherished by many other special people, too numerous to mention here. He touched so many lives.
We were praying to God for a miracle and we heard God’s answer. He said “don’t you see ..... you have been in the presence of a miracle for fifteen years”.
