Edwin Skretting

1940 - 2017

For years, Dad has asked..... "Is my name in there yet"?    Well today we can say, "Yes Dad, it is”.

Edwin Toralf Skretting, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 years on Father’s Day, June 18, 2017 surrounded by love.

He was the last surviving child born to Gustav and Jorgine (nee Odland) Skretting. He was also predeceased by his siblings Mary, Hans, Torsten, Gustav, Gudmund, Arnold, Jimmy, Judith and Sven; his dear companion Kathy and other family members including brothers-in-law Harry Key and Peter Braun.

Edwin was the father of Janet (Darren) and Marvin Skretting; grandpa to Delon (Ryan) Kutanzi, Tanya (Ryan) Baker and Deena Baker; bestifar (the norwegian word for grandfather) to Raelyn and Teagin Kutanzi. He is also survived by our wonderful mother Carol Skretting (nee Wright) and her siblings; his sisters-in-law Anne, Ionne, Irene, Anne L. and by his very caring nephews, nieces, extended family and circle of friends.

He has gone to a better place. As Janet said on Father's Day, "Run and play with your family; skate with your team; soar in the skies above the roads you loved to drive”.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, June 25, 2017 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

One of dad's last road trips was travelling back to his farm in Circle Hill, north of Vauxhall, to take KFC to Scurvy and Jost and to see the crops while combining. He later said, "The next trip I take to Enchant will be in a hearse”. He has proved that to be true.

The graveside service was held at the Enchant Cemetery, one kilometre north of highway 526 on range road 185, Enchant on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. A celebration of Edwin’s life followed at the Royal Canadian Legion, 217 - 5 Street North, Vauxhall.
