Jack Downie

1941 - 2022

 It is with a great sense of loss and sadness, that the family of Robert John Downie, affectionately known as “Black Bart”, announce his passing in Taber on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the age of 81 years. 

 A private service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 2:00 P.M.  

 Jack will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sandra (Sean) Snyder of Leduc, grandsons Logan and Jeremy; son Allen Downie of Taber.

 He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Nellie Downie and sister Barbara Green. 

 Jack was born in Calgary on January 27, 1941, the son of Jack and Nellie Downie. He had many fond memories of living in Lethbridge and Calgary, he spoke often of his love for his old Ford cars. Jack started his career with the City of Calgary Fire Department in payroll department at headquarters. He then chose his lifelong career for thirty years as a 9-1-1 operator for the City of Calgary. Jack enjoyed meeting and spending time with his fellow brothers in the Calgary Firefighter's Museum Society. He was an avid puzzle builder while watching his favorite Elvis Presley movies. 

 Jack was a very proud and loving grampa, he was always interested in spending time together with the boys discussing hockey and football.
