JOHN EVANSON

1914 - 1999

John Eugene Evanson, beloved husband of Rae Evanson of Taber, passed away on Friday, October 29, 1999 at the age of 85 years.
John is survived by his seven children Dale (Phyllis) Evanson, Carolyn (Eldon) Smith, Jerold (Pat) Evanson, Barbara (Bob) Hemmert, Thomas (Carol) Evanson, Lorna (Alan) Allred and Leif (Cindy) Evanson; forty seven grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; brothers Ray (Myra) Evanson and Archie (Hilda) Evanson; sisters Deana Moller and Ruth Harding; sisters-in-law Stella Hall and Mildred Jacobs and also by a special friend Bill Valgardson.
John was predeceased by his father John Evanson, mother Johannah Johnson, infant son David Evanson, granddaughter Lindsey Evanson, brothers and sisters Eva Evanson, Edna Bennett, Harold Evanson, Virginia Hall and Richard Evanson; brothers-in-law Clifford Bennett, Reed Hall, Ted Moller and Lewis Harding.
John was born on July 18, 1914 in Taber. He was married July 6, 1939 in the Alberta Temple to Rae Mendenhall. He lived in the Taber area and farmed all his life having a great love for the land.
He was a man of many talents. Loving music, he played the accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and banjo. Earlier in his life he played in a band with his sisters Virginia and Deana. He also participated in tumbling competition with his brothers Ray and Archie. John enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friend and cousin Bill Valgardson and many hours were spent flying his Cessna 150. Some of his interests were astronomy, genealogy, photography, carpentry, welding and mechanics.
Family always came first. John built his own home and raised his family on the original Evanson homestead.
He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions within.
John was a talented craftsman with a keen mind who only settled for perfection and usually obtained it.
The world has been a better place because of John. May we who are young continue on the shoulders of this great man to build better and higher; that the trails and golden memories made by him and his stalwart pioneer heritage may not be in vain.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, November 1, 1999 between 12:00 P.M. and 1:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, November 1, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. with Bishop Richard Sugden conducting. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
