FUNERAL SERVICE AUDIO RECORDING

Syb Johnson

1922 - 2017

Sylvia Ellen Johnson (nee Martin), beloved wife of the late Ron Johnson, passed away peacefully at her home in Barnwell on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the age of 94 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, February 27, 2017 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.

The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14 - 3 Avenue East, Barnwell on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Barnwell Cemetery.

Syb is lovingly remembered by her five children Sandra Atkins of Edmonton, Hollis (Don) Ehman of Edmonton, Brooke (Josie) Johnson of Ross Haven, Marty (Carolyn) Johnson of Barnwell and Tammy Johnson of Lethbridge. She is also survived by thirty two grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Ronald Johnson, parents Robert and Sarah Martin, son-in-law Brian Atkins, all her siblings and in-laws.

Syb was born February 26, 1922 in Purple Springs to Robert and Sarah (nee Bowser) Martin, she was the youngest sibling of Millay, Ethel, Sarah, Allen, James, Russell and Lewis. The family later moved to Barnwell where she met and married Ron Johnson on June 15, 1943. Syb loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time walking and talking with her friends. She was a proud member of the Walkie Talkies. Syb always enjoyed having a pet dog or cat in her home, especially a couple of her favorites Old Yeller and Rocky. She loved working in her yard and garden and would always share what she grew with family and friends. She was also a fabulous cook as the smell of freshly baked gingersnaps and cinnamon buns always hung in the air. Syb and Ronald loved to dance and passed that love on to their children. She always had time for those in need and everyone was always welcome in their home. Her greatest treasure was her family and friends and she leaves for us a legacy of love.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Syb’s name may be made directly to the Taber and District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.

Syb’s greatest desire was to live out her days in her beloved home in Barnwell. Thanks to a team of wonderful caregivers she was able to fulfill that wish. The family expresses deep thanks for the service, care and love that was provided in Syb’s final years.
