1927 - 2016

James Bruce Major, beloved husband of Irma Major, passed away in Bow Island on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

 Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

 The Funeral Service was held at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Bow Island Cemetery. 

 Besides his loving wife Irma, Bruce is survived by his children Robert Major of Taber; Iris (Leslie) Martens of Bow Island and their children Cheryl Martens (Bernie Green), Cameron (Christy) Martens (children Alayna, Kierann and Natalie), Colleen (Blake) Johnson (children Ellianna, Jolen and Elkanon), Conrad (Amy) Martens (children Aidyn, Callie, Ryder and William) and Cevin Martens; Beverly (Andrew) Dykstra of Burdett and their children Angie (Ken) Pringle, Nick (Karyn) Dykstra (children Isabella and Logan) and Danielle (Devin) Hermanson (children Marshall and Afton); Linda (Richard) Drader of Prince George, British Columbia and their children Christopher Drader, Robbynne Drader and Zane Drader. He is also survived by his brothers Don (Rita) Major and Gordon Major; in-laws Gordon Blanchard, Carol Dezaeyer and Andrew (Eileen) Dezaeyer as well as many nieces and nephews who knew and loved him.

 He was predeceased by his son David Major; great grandchild Mckenzie Hermanson; parents William and Jean Major; siblings Norman Major, Ellen Blanchard and Wallace (Doris) Major.

 Bruce was born to William and Jean Major in Unity, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1927. He spent his early life learning farming from his dad on their family farm. Bruce met and married the love of his life, Irma, on March 25, 1949 in Onoway, Alberta. Bruce enjoyed various places of employment until he returned to his love of farming and settled outside Burdett. After his retirement, Bruce continued to help out on the farm, now owned by Beverly and Andrew Dykstra. 

 Besides his wife, Bruce’s loves included restoring antique tractors, helping out at the farm, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, gardening and being a part of his church family.

 Bruce will be remembered for his sense of humor, visits to the farm, love for coffee times at the Rolling Pin Bakery and doting on his bride of sixty seven years.

 Bruce will be lovingly remembered his wife, four children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
